GMA update

9 Aug 2017 by Jason Trask

Our pre season planning is underway as we gear up for another great winter in Stowe! This year our pre season training at GMTC will begin Wednesday, September 6th, and Sunday, September 10th. Wednesday’s are 4-5:30 and Sunday’s time is TBD. If interested please contact me via phone, txt, or email ASAP as I need to submit our roster to the gym.

We have not had enough interest from athletes 10 or older (OJC requirement) for ramp camp at the Lake Placid OJC this summer to run our first 2 of 3 scheduled sessions. We are looking to schedule fall sessions at 2 other facilities without minimum age requirements. Phil’s Hill is located on the Waterville Valley campus with a dry slope bag jump, jib area, and two indoor fly-bed trampolines. The cost is higher than Lake Placid but offers a dry slope rail/box area and the trampolines are inside which is ideal when the weather does not cooperate! Maximise is in Montreal has the most advanced freestyle airbag and dry slope training facility available worldwide! The USSA has to approve our coaches to train athletes at Maximise for insurance reasons and we should have an answer soon, fingers crossed! Please let me know if you are interested in either or both of these options so we can plan accordingly.

We have learned a great deal about academic requirements in Vermont while planning our winter tutorial. Thank you to those who are interested for sharing class schedules. Unfortunately we are unable to offer a recognized program this year due to requirements from the Vermont Agency of Education. We will expand on snow coaching weekdays for those who homeschool or arrange absences with their school. We can recomend a tutor as well if needed. As we prepare to become a state recognized school for 2018 we cannot afford to do anything that could jeopardize our relationship with the secretary of education Rebecca Holcombe as she is the only person in charge of accepting aplications for state recognition. The good news is we have learned a great deal and will be fully prepared next year as we build a high quality education program for the future of snowboard and freeski athletes in our region.

Please don’t forget to contact us if you are interested in sessions offered at GMTC, Phil’s Hill, and/or Maximise.

Cheers!
